Refractory Pigment Treatment FAQ

What is Nevus of Ota?

Nevus of Ota is a blue-gray or brown birthmark that appears on one side of the face due to melanin deposits deep in the dermis. It cannot be removed with conventional lasers and requires the deep penetration and high energy of a picosecond laser for effective treatment.

What is ADT (Acquired Dermal Melanocytosis)?

ADT is a condition where melanin accumulates in the deep dermal layer, appearing as brown or gray patches. It tends to develop or worsen with age. Multiple picosecond laser sessions can gradually improve the condition.

How many sessions are needed for refractory pigment treatment?

Because refractory pigmentation is deeply embedded, it requires more sessions than typical pigment treatment. Nevus of Ota may need 10 to 20 or more sessions, while ADT typically requires 5 to 10 sessions. The exact number depends on the depth of pigmentation and individual response.
