The same material behaves differently depending on barrier status and tissue readiness, and between different materials, suitability flips according to the goal (hydration, regeneration, elasticity, volume). Deciding by tissue condition rather than by product is what determines satisfaction.

Five Materials — Composition and Tissue Response

The products grouped under "skin booster" differ in composition, degradation rate and tissue response. Here is what each material is and how it behaves in tissue.

Rejuran — polynucleotide (PN)

Rejuran uses polynucleotide (PN) extracted from salmon. As it degrades it is understood to promote regenerative and reparative responses in tissue, and it is used where the goal is regeneration in compromised barriers, skin with redness, and pore-prone areas.

Its primary goals are hydration, regeneration and repair; it is not a volumizing material. The tissue response is comparatively gentle, so sessions often proceed without significant swelling from the outset, though individual variation exists.

Juvelook — PDLLA (polylactic acid family)

Juvelook is based on PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid). It degrades slowly within tissue, and that process induces a collagen-stimulating response. The goal is improvement in the direction of elasticity and firmness.

As a property of the polylactic acid family, transient swelling and fine nodularity can occur, so timing should be adjusted when swelling is poorly tolerated or a short recovery period is required.

GOURI — liquid PCL (polycaprolactone)

GOURI uses liquid PCL (polycaprolactone). It degrades more slowly than PDLLA while inducing a collagen-stimulating response. Its direction resembles Juvelook, but the duration and response curve differ.

As a PCL-family property, GOURI also tends toward a swelling response, so several days of swelling and fine nodularity are explained in advance.

Re2O — hADM (human acellular dermal matrix)

Re2O uses human acellular dermal matrix (hADM) to supply ECM material directly into the dermis itself. Strictly speaking it belongs to a different family from collagen stimulators: rather than stimulating tissue to produce its own collagen, it adds dermal "material" directly.

It is the more direct approach where pores, skin texture and thinned dermal density are the main concerns. Because response varies with tissue readiness and treatment area, it is planned alongside — or in combination with — other materials.

HA skin boosters — hyaluronic acid

HA skin boosters use hyaluronic acid, with several products differing in molecular weight, degree of cross-linking and glycerol content. The primary goals are hydration, surface texture and volume maintenance. The tissue response is relatively gentle with less swelling, so HA is often considered as a first skin booster.

The Same Material Responds Differently by Tissue Readiness

This is the most commonly misunderstood point. Results depend as much on the tissue the material enters as on which product was chosen.

  • Compromised barrier — swelling and irritation can be pronounced; barrier recovery may be needed first.
  • Severely dehydrated tissue — absorption and degradation may deviate from expectation, so early sessions use lower intensity.
  • Tissue with active inflammation — treatment can aggravate inflammation, so the principle is to stabilize first.
  • Residual filler or injectables — the response to a new material may differ from expectation, so sequence and interval are adjusted.
  • Tissue with coexisting sebum or redness factors — the weighting of skin boosters is varied by area.

The same product in differently prepared tissue produces different results. Assessing tissue condition before choosing a product name is the natural order.

  • Swelling tolerance — whether several days of swelling and fine nodularity are acceptable (important for PDLLA and PCL decisions)

  • Prior procedure history — previous fillers, boosters and energy devices change the sequence and interval
  • Coexisting concerns — redness, pores or fine lines determine how treatment combines with other procedures

How a Session Actually Proceeds

Details differ by material, but skin booster treatment follows the same overall sequence.

  • Consultation and assessment — review the items above and design material, injection plane and interval together.
  • Cleansing and anesthesia — topical anesthetic with absorption time.
  • Photography and marking — areas are confirmed and injection points marked.
  • Treatment — performed according to material and injection plane; the plane differs (superficial, dermal or subcutaneous) by material.

What Skin Boosters Do Not Address — and Differences in Evidence

Skin boosters induce a range of tissue responses, but the following set realistic limits on results.

  • Head-to-head clinical comparisons remain limited — it is difficult to conclude that any product is absolutely superior, and the depth of evidence differs by material. Consultation keeps this uncertainty in view.
  • Swelling with PDLLA and PCL is a material property — transient but variable between individuals, and timing affects satisfaction.
  • Significant skeletal change or volume lossfillers or volumizing procedures may be more appropriate than skin boosters.
  • Deep laxity and SMAS descent — not the layer skin boosters address; that is the domain of lifting devices.
  • Sessions and intervals shape the result — accumulating tissue response across sessions is more natural than expecting dramatic change from one.

Skin boosters are a tool for maintaining and improving the superficial to mid layers, not for reversing facial aging or laxity overall. Keeping this distinction clear is what prevents disappointment mid-course.
