The key difference lies in RF output mode. Thermage and the classic tip output monopolar RF only. Density Alpha-Tip, on the other hand, alternates sequentially between bipolar and monopolar RF. This Sequential Mono-Bipolar RF technology is the core of Density Alpha-Tip.
How Sequential Mono-Bipolar RF Works
Monopolar RF delivers energy deep into the skin, generating broad heat across the deep dermis and subcutaneous tissue. It is advantageous for collagen contraction and long-term collagen remodeling. Bipolar RF concentrates energy in a narrow zone between two electrodes, precisely heating the superficial dermis. It is effective for improving skin texture and elasticity.
Density Alpha-Tip delivers both modes sequentially from a single handpiece. The advantage is uniform thermal stimulation across multiple dermal depths in a single treatment. In an aged mouse model, collagen density at day 28 was reported at 1.8-fold for monopolar and 2.4-fold for sequential monopolar-bipolar RF against the aging control, at the same energy setting. These are animal data and may not translate to results in people.
